WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION
Ages 16-29
Summer 2023, Assigned Locations

In this workshop student fellows will break out of their usual routines and neighborhoods to explore their city, from the Baltimore Museum of Art to the National Aquarium to the Rawlings Conservatory to the Waverly Farmers’ Market, and more.  They’ll venture out with open eyes and ears, true curiosity, rediscovering or discovering for the first time what Baltimore has to offer, including great art, exotic plants and animals, and delicious food.  On their expeditions, they’ll take notes, and make both still and moving images of what they find.  Then in group discussion they’ll share and reflect on what they noticed, and ultimately create individual video diaries about their experiences.  They’ll start as tourists and become full citizens as they claim ownership of their extensive and varied home turf.  Their work will be shared on the program website and through a public exhibition.  Limited to 10 student fellows.

Jamal Evans teaches in the Interactive Media Production program at Edmondson-Westside High School.  For over fifteen years, he has inspired students to enter the world of media production.  He also has a passion for social media and does freelance photography and video throughout the Baltimore region and beyond.
