COMEDIC STORYTELLING: CREATING THE ONE-PERSON SHOW
Ages 16-29
Summer 2016, Johns Hopkins Homewood

This performance and storytelling workshop will explore the live, one-person show.  In the spirit of comedic performances by Richard Pryor and Eric Bogosian, student fellows will draw from real life characters, studying their mannerisms and unique vocal qualities, and bringing them to life on stage.  Through improv and acting exercises in collaboration with each other and with the instructor, fellows will work on acting technique, story structure, and character development.  They'll perform their own stories and the stories of their families, neighborhoods, and city.  The instructor, a veteran actor and comedian, will fill the role of director and will support each fellow in creating a short, original show.  Final performances will be taped in front of a live audience and the concert films will be featured on the program website.  Limited to 10 student fellows.

Marc Unger is a nationally known actor/writer/comedian. His work has been featured on network television and in theaters and film festivals in both New York and Los Angeles. He has shared the stage and screen with artists Stephen Adly Guirgis, John Hawkes, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Renee Scavone studies film and writing at Johns Hopkins University. She has found her niche in the school's performing arts and comedy scenes, and hopes to encourage others to do the same.
