BALTIMORE UPRISING: THE ARCHIVE
Ages 16-24
Spring 2021, Online
In this distance learning workshop, student fellows will return to interviews and personal histories collected in the Spring 2017 workshop Baltimore Uprising (link), and create an archive for the BYFA website. In Baltimore Uprising fellows were paired with elders from the community who had compelling stories to tell regarding the role of youth in social change. Elders reflected on being young in the volatile 1960s and early '70s, witnessing the world quickly changing around them; and together, elders and fellows put the 2015 uprising in context. The archive, consisting of complete interviews with brief thumbnails, will offer access to source material for the viewing public and for researchers. In addition, fellows will log the material for possible future use in documentary projects. A log sheet includes timecodes and notes on content, and gives editors mastery of hours of footage, increasing the efficiency of their process. Thumbnail highlights will also be shared at a virtual exhibition. Limited to 12 student fellows.
